Abaco has long been known for beautiful weather, pristine beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters, but Abaco is much more than sun, sand and sea. Below is just a short list of activities you can enjoy while cruising the Cays aboard the S/V Alpha Cat.

Nippers Pig Roast - If you're in the area on Sunday and are wondering where everyone disappeared too, they're all on Guana Cay for the famous Sunday Pig Roast at Nippers Bar. Stop by for the music and fun, mix with the locals, tourists and cruisers, everyone's here.

The Cruisers Net - The Cruisers Net. Broadcast every morning at 8:15 a.m. on VHF channel 68, The Net will keep you informed with world and local news, weather, restaurant menus for the day, community announcements, arrivals and departures, with a little humor thrown in.

Fowl Cay underwater park - Fowl Cay Preserve lies between the north end of Man-0-War Cay and the southern tip of Scotland Cay. Both novice as well as experienced divers and snorkelers can enjoy an afternoon swim, there is no current inside, and the reef is spectacular.

Tahiti Beach - Visit one of the most picturesque beaches in the world right here in the Bahamas at the south end of Elbow Cay, then take a short hop over to Cracker P's on Lubbers Quarters, or Seaspray Resort & Marina on White Sound for lunch or dinner.

Hopetown Light House - Elbow Cay is home to the most famous landmark in Abaco, the red and white striped lighthouse in Hopetown, one of only three kerosene-powered lights in the world. Climb the 101 steps to the top of this 1863 lighthouse to breathtaking views of Hopetown and the outer Cays.

Beaches - Abaco has some of the finest beaches in the world, most of them completely deserted. Tahiti Beach at the south end on Elbow Cay is a powder white beach lined with Palm trees, and on the Atlantic side of any cay you will find a beach perfect for walks, body surfing or boogie boarding.

Diving - The Great Abaco Barrier Reef, the worlds third largest barrier reef. The reef runs almost 100 miles from Walkers Cay, to about 20 miles south of Elbow Cay. Here Elkhorn, Brain and Star coral form caves and trails that lead to coral gardens as tropical fish in every color of the rainbow swim within reach.

Fishing - Whether it's Bone fishing in the flats, or deep sea fishing just past the reef in the Atlantic, you'll find some of the best fishing in the world here in the Abaco's. Visit our Pura Vida web site for information on Bone fishing and deep sea charters aboard Free Spool.
